Brazil's 2014 World Cup Logo

Excitement is building in the world of soccer as we approach the 20th World Cup tournament this Summer in Brazil. Held every four years, this international tournament is the Super Bowl of soccer. It is the largest and most important tournament of the sport. Every team is competing for their country with the prideful spirit that most sports only see in the Olympics. One of the first steps of each World Cup campaign is the release of its logo, followed by the critique of designers and fans from around the world. The logo, designed by Brazilian agency Africa, was based on an iconic photo of three champions holding the cup in the air. The shape of the logo reflects the actual World Cup trophy and the hands are said to also represent Brazil welcoming the world. Although the design has been met with some harsh criticism, I actually like the design and think the organic, yet simple shapes, mixed with layered symbolism makes this logo one, if not the best logo the World Cup has had to date. Below you can see the logo, a picture of the trophy which the design was based on, and past World Cup logos.
