Typography as a Body
It wasn’t until my Typography class that I realized that letterforms are bodily forms. They have curves and straight lines/parts just like the human body does and names for them too. Letterforms, for instance, have ears, arms, legs, eyes and spines.
Until my Typography class I hadn’t viewed letterforms as unique, individual artistic designs. I only saw them for their function of conveying or representing a sound or message, when put together into a word.
Now that I am learning more about fonts, typefaces and the constructs of letterforms in general, I am developing a new appreciation for each design of a letterform and the effort and complexity accompanying them.
